Iruppu Falls and Nagarhole — Waterfalls and Wildlife in One Day

How to do Iruppu Falls and Nagarhole National Park without rushing either.

**Start with the waterfall, end with the tiger reserve.** That is the only sane order. I left [Kutta](/kutta-sightseeing-nagarhole-iruppu) at 6:30 a.m. and reached [Iruppu Falls](/blog/iruppu-nagarhole-daytrip) by 7:15. The trail is 1.2 km of stone steps and root ladders, wet even in dry season. At the top, the Lakshmana Tirtha drops 170 feet into a pool that is colder than it looks. Carry a towel. Ignore the selfie queue. **Nagarhole is not a zoo.** The afternoon jeep safari from the Kutta gate is a 3-hour lottery. I saw gaur, langurs, and one very patient mugger crocodile. No tiger. The forest guard said, "If you need a tiger, come back for five days." Fair. **Pack lunch, not plans.** There is no reliable food between the falls and the park. I bought bananas and peanut chikki at the Kutta santhe the evening before. **Stay close.** Base yourself in Kutta stay if you want dawn access to the falls, or Nagarhole stay for park-proximity. For broader itineraries, see Kodagu sightseeing.
